What is a workplace parking levy?
A Workplace Parking Levy (WPL) is a charge on employers that provide free or relatively cheap workplace parking. All the money raised form the WPL will be invested into improving public transport in Nottingham.
Congestion in Nottingham currently costs the local economy £160 million in lost time and revenue each year. With the predicted growth in population in and around Nottingham, this will only get worse. The WPL and its benefits, will help control the problems associated with traffic congestion.
Nottingham's workplace parking levy only applies to employers within the City of Nottingham's administrative boundary that provide 11 or more liable parking places (see information for employers to find out if this applies to you).
Charging for the WPL will not begin until April 2012, although employers will be licensed, at no charge, from October 2011. Employers with 10 or fewer liable parking places will be entitled to a 100 per cent discount and will not have to pay.
