The Italian Connection: oral history project
With the support of the Big Lottery and MLA Council, Nottingham City Library Service is currently undertaking a project to record the history and development of the Italian community in Nottingham. In the first stage of this project we are concentrating on the experiences of individuals or families who came to Nottingham in the 1940s, 50s or 60s or who were here during the Second World War.
As part of this research, we are interviewing people (or their relatives/descendants) who would like to tell their story. We shall store the interviews as part of the Local Studies' Oral History Collection. Additionally, we are intending to create a publication to include some of these stories along with historic photographs. Two local schools are involved with this project and a learning package will be created that links to the themes of identity, citizenship and diversity.
If anyone is interested in finding out more about this project or knows someone who would like to be interviewed please contact:
Roger Parish, Service Development Librarian at Sneinton Library on 9151194 or at Nottingham Central Library (Local Studies) on 9152873.
