Nottingham City Council has introduced a discount for 2010/11 only for taxpayers aged 65 or over. The following conditions must be met to qualify for this discount –

• All the persons liable for the Council Tax are aged 65 or over on 1 April 2010. This would apply to single occupiers aged 65 or over and joint occupiers all aged 65 or over;
• The property is used as their only or main home;
• No Council Tax Benefit has been awarded for 1 April 2010;
• An application is made by 30 September 2010.

This discount can only apply to a taxpayer's main home and not to empty and second homes. Only one discount can be given to a household.

If you qualify a discount of £20 will be granted. If the total tax you have to pay for 2010/11 is less than £20 (e.g. if you move out in early April) you will get a discount equal to the total tax due.

This discount will appear on your Council Tax bill.
